Teamwork

Teamwork in a project context: the different phases

The model was introduced by Bruce Tuckman in 1965 (still working well) and describes the steps of how a team performs along time.
Hereafter the Five (or, according to other perspectives Six) steps are listed:
· FORMING (and WARMING): In this (or these two) phase(s) what everyone sees is the person wearing a “mask” which progressively fades ad the truth begins to rise behind “masks”.
· STORMING: In this step the “mask” anyone wears is no longer active and everyone sees the other persons as they are (positive and negative aspects).
· NORMING: here the team begin to align toward a scope, since trusting each other is the key.
· PERFORMING: All the team works with alignment and synergy, performing as a real integrated body.
· ADJOURNING the team is no longer active. It is important that a statement is communicated to all the stakeholders and also that the team leader receives a feedback. The single persons remain favourably impressed of the importance of working in a team and they will naturally tend to work like this for future projects.
